Thinking that perhaps the thermostat was too restrictive for the much larger radiator we removed it to test.

The coolant fans would kick on at about 203 or 204 deg. The problem is after even an hour and more than ~20 cycles, there are still bubbles (some times a lot) coming out of the system. I recently replaced a cracked radiator and the thermostat while i was at it, but the coolant is boiling before the thermostat opens so I can't burp the system. The temperature gauge on the dash reads just under half, but the system is boiling over.

Cool trick to check if it is the thermostat... pull it out of the truck and put it in a pot of cold water. Turn the burner on and heat up the water -- you should see the thermostat open up.
