It brings a next-generation design and a wide range of features (snapshots, data checksums, internal RAID, etc.) that users have been waiting for. WebBtrfs has various useful functions. For example, snapshots, subvolumes, compression. For example, if you create a snapshot before an update, you can quickly restore the original state if you notice that there are problems with the update. Subvolumes are somewhat similar to partitions.

WebAug 22, 2024 · It seems that BTRFS reserves an amount of space up front, which you effectively lose as capacity. Other file systems work differently. So with Windows you use NTFS and I can quite easily fill up a 2TB or 20TB volume where there is only 1MB of free space, so you can easily use 100% of the capacity. WebBTRFS detects and corrects corrupted metadata in Raid dup, 1/10 and 5/6, which is caused by this bug. So unless both metadata copies are faulty, no damage is done.
